Game freezes when using relative coordinate commands

When I try to type a command involving relative coordinate indicators (e.g. a teleport command using relative coordinates), the game freezes when I enter the second tilde into the command window. The game won't crash, it just freezes until I force close the game entirely. This happens with both command blocks and the chat window.
