Minecraft crashes every time I try to use the Book and Quill item.

Background - Making a maze/adventure map for my cousin the next time I see him.

I needed to write a note for the story line, and it would have been too big to fit on signs. I got out a book and quill, thinking I could just use that. I right-clicked to use the Book and Quill, and the game crashed. This has not happened to me before 1.5. After the game's initial crash, I had tried it a few more times, and each time it crashed.
