Squids filling up village wells

I've never seen this on other versions, but squids are spawning in village wells right before my very eyes. I don't know what's worse - the fact the squids are spawning there or the fact I can see them spawning one by one, slowly filling it up.

I did /kill @e[type=Squid] and there was a literal EXPLOSION of ink sacs. Way more than there were squids, mind.
