Invalid Double when entering ranged double x selector

The command:

/execute as @e[x=-188.5..-189.0] run say hi

Returns ".... Invalid double .... @e[x=<-[HERE]"

Same issue when reordering the values; same when using positive values. Whitespace between values produced a different-- I would suppose justified-- error.

I observed this in command block output and chat.
