Hundreds of dolphins spawn when going high into air and falling

I'm sorry if this is a duplicate, I tried to find as much as I can and couldn't find anything.
When you go hundreds of blocks into the air, to a point where you can't see any mobs on the ground, and when you fall back down, many, many dolphins will spawn that weren't there before.
