Maps glitch out/ become invisible when held in first-person

Was going to explore the seed I had chosen for 1.13 to see if anything had changed with the new world-gen but noticed that the map in my hand was not visible most of the time, only sometimes I could see it flickr.
The map does still work and when I put it in an item-frame it was visible and it had filled in the parts where I'd moved.
