Redstone causes tremendous performance drop

Redstone causes extremely low performance with very few components, even on high-end PC

Simple redstone circuits cut the framerate to around one third, while more complicated events like locking hoppers, firing pistons, redstone lamps, etc. make the game almost unplayable.
