Parrots stuck on stay

tamed parrots are in the same place after i right clicked on them (stay). They are now "stuck" there because right clicking on them has no affect. i left click on one and I hit it so it flew up and settled back down. However i still could not right click on it.
if i right click on a horse i will mount it so i know the mouse is working. it is just the parrots that are not working. I have 6 parrots and 5 are doing the same thing.
