Block textures broken after last patch

Edit: I just seen the post on the news blog about a "New" texture default look and it looks similar to that. If this is some sort of April fools joke then it wasn't pushed out publicly to well.

After updating to a hotfix or whatever it was today. My minecraft textures started to bug out and many of them no longer work. They just show basic colors/shaders on them. When destroying the block in survival mode they do not get added to the inventory. This happens on both a single player game and a server based game.

So far I have tried the following.

Re installing java
Re installing minecraft
Changing versions and then switching back
