Water disappearing when by slabs

When I Started a world I tried to make a 2x2 infinite water source but when I used slabs it would disappear.

I expected that it would have the texture as normal.

What it did was show that water was there, but the texture wouldn't show.

1.Make a 2x2 infinite water source surrounded by slabs
