Chickens Don't follow

When I hold seeds in my right hand a chicken will follow as it is supposed to; but when I hold seeds in my left hand, the chicken does NOT follow, and is unresponsive. This is very annoying since I like to hold a tool in my right hand as it is easier.
Please fix this!
