Water Texture disappears when slabs are placed underneath

If the entire floor underneath a one-block-deep body of water is slabs the water's surface texture disappears. If the body of water covers multiple chunks and the entire floor underneath a chunk is slabs the water's surface texture disappears in that chunk. I can still swim in the water, so the water is still there.
