Minecraft won't run past version 1.8

Minecraft is failing to load worlds in versions of 1.9 or later. It will load worlds in version 1.8 or older. as stated my system requirements match the recommended ones for running Minecraft. I have looked at the output log and the game always crashes when trying to build terrain upon loading a world. it will get to loading spawn areas and will print percentages but crashes after that.
