Crafting a Wood Plank from Wood Block yields only one plank instead of four

Suddenly yesterday when I try to craft wood planks from any wood block, the ratio is 1 to 1 instead of 1 to 4, i.e. a raw block of wood yields only one wood plank instead of the proscribed four. Not happening when I launch as 1.12. Happens on existing or new worlds I create in 1.13.
