17w48a comparator does not register a dropper

I am using Java version 17w48a and am using the simple dropper with a comparator to take an output to test the changes to an item elevator and the comparator does not register the dropper I tried to just use the combo alone and still no output.

the picture shows an activated comparator to the right and the fact i have items in the dropper but the comparator is not active

I did search and did not find this bug listed yet.
