Can't place button or a lever on a piston side or top

Tried to place a button on top of a piston and it didn't work
Tried to place a lever on top of a piston and it didn't work
Tried to place a button on the side of a piston and it didn't work
Tried to place a lever on the side of a piston and it didn't work
Tried to place a button on the bottom of a piston and it worked
Tried to place a lever on the bottom of a piston and it worked
