Boats are teleporting to where it was originally placed after using them

whenever i use a boat, after using it, it teleports back to the place that i placed it. i traveled across an ocean recently that was about 2000 blocks wide and when i got to the other end of it the boat teleported to the other end, i know it teleported because it didnt just dissapear, it moved backwards at super speed. sure i could just make a new boat because its so cheap, but i had my cat in that boat.
