CRASH on 1st time opening on new computer

I downloaded for 1st time on this PC and keep getting Game Crash - An unexpected error has occured.
I have tried all the fixes that are listed in this site
for example I tried adding this to the launcher properties --workDir %ProgramData%\.minecraft
