I cannot move when I am in Alpha or Beta versions of MineCraft

Whenever I load up a version of Alpha or Beta versions of MineCraft; I cannot move any direction (using my keyboard) but I can move my mouse and use said mouse. I've tried switching the controls but it still couldn't fix the problem. I am on a iMac Late 2012, if you could fix this problem; thank you so much!
