Unexpected crash during game launch (Win7)

I receive the following error upon game startup:
GAME CRASH
An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience.
(CLOSE)

I have never been able to successfully launch the game. I am running Minecraft version 1.21.1, and the launcher says it's version 2.0.934. I have tried the following:

– Restart the computer
– Uninstall and reinstall Minecraft
– Update Java to the latest version from java.com (version 8 update 144)
