Error when trying to change text of sign or placing new sign with text

When I use one of the following commands to change the values of a sign. There is always the output that "A unknown error occured while performing this task"

/setblock ~ ~1 ~ wall_sign 5 replace

{Text1:"hi", Text2:""}

/blockdata ~ ~1 ~

{Text1:"Whatever you want in Line 1"}
