Lag issues on certain Minecraft versions.

When I join a server like hypixel, sometime if I play from 1.11.2 / 1.12 I will have a very high ping.
When I switch back to 1.8.9 the lag stops and my connection to the server fixes itself, this happens exactly when I switch from 1.11.2 / 1.12 to 1.8.9

Very annoying, can't understand why this is happening.
