Chain command block doesn't activate when it should

I was trying to do a /tellraw chain when I noticed that it woludn't execute if I don't put Impulse command blocks and redstone above.
Then I tried with a simple_ /say_ chain, and still doesn't work. I tried with "Always Active" option, without it and putting a redstone block aside of every chain block, and still doesn't work.
