Skin customization bug

My skin will only show one layer of the skin, like when I put right sleeve on in the skin customization window it will only show the overlay of the right sleeve and not the part underneath, leaving the body part black. If I have the hat on it will show the overlay but not the actual head. This happens in both survival and creative, no matter what skin I have.
