Inventory Duplication

In Minecraft, I went through a nether portal while still flying with elytra. When I came into the overworld, my character would not stop gliding, even when hitting the ground. I flew about a hundred blocks, but I was not landing. I re-logged. Everything was fine. I went back into the nether, then into the overworld, then the nether again. At that point, a creeper blew up next to another player, and right next to where I re-logged. A death message was displayed for myself, and my inventory from when I re-logged was dropped. However, I was currently walking through the nether, and I kept my entire inventory. I went to where my previous inventory had been dropped and picked up all the items. I have not successfully recreated the glitch yet, but am trying.
