Pushing bird into a trapdoor caused it to vanish

I was playing online with a friend of mine and I had to move her bird out of the way of a trapdoor (it was sitting) and I accidentally bumped the bird into the trapdoor and it vanished from the game. My friend says it didn't teleport to her and I searched the whole area and nothing.
