Pickaxe breaks, drops to ground, picking up and using caused all pickaxes to disappear

Was mining blocks with enchanted diamond pickaxe when it hit it's end and broke. Pickaxe dropped to the ground in front of me. I picked it up and showed as a complete pickaxe with same enchantments as my second pickaxe. Put it into use bar, tried to use it and it broke instantly, however, it destroyed my second pickaxe in addition to one picked up. Had it in slot 1 and second one in slot 5 and both items disappeared.
