AI Frame Rate

Whenever I attempt to play minecraft, everything around my player, with an exception of blocks and items, are moving at a agonizingly slow pace, everybody and every AI moves as if I'm attempting to play minecraft on a game-boy. please tell me if its a problem with space or if I'm just doing something wrong.
