Crashing

I have a different computer and downloading minecraft for the first time on this computer. It is a really old one. I have downloaded msi and followed all the instructions. Then minecraft is updating the launcher so I can play. The launcher is now open and I press the big play button. When it loads, it says minecraft have crashed. What have I done wrong?
