Killed by Wither. All my armor ect gone when I came back

Just won a fight with the Wither.
Wither effect killed me right after.
Run directly from spawn (about a 10 sec run) and all my armor, weapons etc gone except the nether star.
Is it a new thing that I mist or a bug?
