Weird sound and sound options not working

When I downloaded the pre-release and started a new world, a weird sound started playing. When I removed that world and started a new one, the same issue popped up. When I tried to make it stop by muting all the sounds, it didn't help: all sounds kept playing (including music etc.) until I muted the master sound. After a restart of the game the sound was gone but so was all the other sound, except walking and breaking blocks. Even after maximizing all sound bars, I still didn't hear anything else.
