all blocks changing to a white block with a hole in the middle

this started right when I walked into the nether after I update minecraft 1.5 today. every single block, including fire and lava turned white with holes going through them. All items in my inventory was turned white also. All I did was walk into the nether and everything turned white. When I left the nether most of the blocks in the over world were also white.
