The armor HUD won't display upon entering a nether portal

When you enter the Nether, the armor HUD will not display.

When I entered the Nether, I expected to see my armor HUD.

I could not see the display when I entered the Nether.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Build a Nether portal, preferably from the Overworld.
2. Walk inside the Nether portal wearing armor.
3. To get the display back, you can remove, then add a piece of armor.
