Minecraft Ignoring Ctrl

In Linux Mint, if "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed" is turned ON, Minecraft does not see the Ctrl key.

I am completely unable to copy or paste anything in Minecraft, nor to Ctrl+Shift+Middle-Click to pick a block WITH NBT. (Obviously, this makes adventure map work quite hard).

I checked, and the problem exists all the way back through 1.8. *The bug does not exist on 1.7.10*.
