Placing torch on bottom of block crashes game.

I remember this being a problem in the past as well but when I place a torch on the underside of a block and there are blocks to the side of where I'm placing the torch, the game crashes, possibly because the game doesn't know where to place the torch or something like that. I don't know. Can someone please test this with other objects smaller than a regular block? I.E. Ladders, redstone torches, redstone, repeaters, etc.
