Nether Portal Glitch

When in a nether portal it is not possible to open inventory. I am not sure if this a glitch or if it is intentional.
WHAT I EXPECTED
Pressing the inventory button will open inventory, even while in a nether portal.
DUPLICATE
Enter portal and press E, or what every button you have it set to.
