items gone after new launcher is installed

When I stared Minecraft today a new launcher was installed. Now all my items, on my character and in all my chests, are gone. For a long time I have been running Minecraft 1.7.10, 1.8.7 and a current version and this has affected all versions after the new launcher was installed.
