Parrots stare at bats over 30 blocks away, through the ground

Parrots are able to stare through the ground, and stare at bats (I assume they're trying to imitate them which is why they walk around staring like this). They shouldn't be able to see animals that are out of a 16 block radius, because currently they don't fly around, they clump up and stare at the ground.
