Game crashes in old updates when i try to use a server resource pack

So what happens is im trying to join a server with a resource pack. i had the version for it which is 1.8.9, i can go on the server no problem but right when i want to activate the server resource pack my game crashes plz help if possible. also why the affects versions is at 1.11.2 is becaurse i could'nt change it to 1.8.9
