Ender Pearl doesn't teleport when thrown through Nether portal

Whenever you throw an ender pearl into a nether portal, you do not teleport.

Although this should not make me change dimensions, I feel that it should teleport me into the portal if it hits a wall behind the portal OR to the opposite side of the portal if there is no wall.
