Block Updates uproot/destroy wheat, pumpkins, melons, etc.

Whenever I place a crop(wheat, pumpkin stalk, etc.) on a block and then that block updates, my crop is "broken" and dropped as an item if it normally would (wheat) or it doesn't if that would normally be the case (pumpkin stalk). This issue persists no matter where I plant my crops.
