Shield not displaying enchant glow when enchanted

Shields don't receive the enchanted glint when enchanted, although they DO support enchanting even in vanilla. GIF presenting the issue (also present as attachement): http://i.imgur.com/kSSnRAX.gifv
The gif was made in 1.11 but I can confirm it also happens in 1.11.2.
