fireworks are not working

when ever i activate my elytra and use fireworks it wont boost me

What I expected to happen was me getting boosted

What actually happened was the fireworks would act like i placed it on the ground

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open a void world
2. get the elytra
3. try to boost with fireworks
