Can't equip Llamas with chests

I can equip them with carpets no problem but when I try to equip a chest to any of them nothing happens, I get no error message or anything it just simply doesn't work, it won't equip. Totally plain old chests, I tried a stack of chests, I tried individual chests, I can't equip chests to llamas.
