Melons won't grow top level stock, fertilized dirt judt wont grow

What I expected to happen was...:
melons would appear after i had bone-mealed the melon seeds to the top lvl of stock

What actually happened was...:
nothing was produced, i waited for 10 mc days to report just in case it was slow

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plant melon seeds
2. bone-meal it
3. wait
