End Rods placed above active beacons mess with the beacon colour updates

I have a redstone build that rotates stained glass above a beacon beam. An end rod on the underside of a transparent block above the beam causes the colour to not update. Removing the end rod allows the beam to continue its updates as expected. I assume that any orientation of the end rod will cause this bug.
