Fishing line dropped vertically down is falling very fast and glitches

Few times did this, and the rod (and likely the whole world) glitched, couldn't pull the line at all. Even dropping the rod doesn't help. Tried to restart the world, and after pressing "Save and Quit to Title" the game hangs and crashes.
