Burning items don't burn but dissappear

When trying to burn items on top of transparent block,with flind and steel witch can't create fire on top of transparent blocks, after a few attemps (1 or 2 on multi player 5-6 on single) the items will dissappear(turn invisible) but they don't burn! They you walk near them you pick all the items.
