cartographer villager unlocking exploration map causes HUGE lag

to reproduce, trade with a cartographer villager until the villager accesses the final trade, the game will freeze as if time has stopped for about 10 seconds and then you can trade again.
This is caused by a custom world lacking one of the essential structures.
