Food is still eaten upon death

Let's say I was fighting in PVP and I had only one golden apple.
I'm trying to eat it but I get killed.

Even though I'm dead the game continues to eat the apple and takes it from my inventory.

This bug has affected me for a long time and I really hope you can get it fixed
